Hostify and POPI Act - 2021

Enforcement of the Protection of Personal Information Act on the 1st of July 2021.

Hostify's Policies:

We are currently in the process of updating all of our terms of services, privacy policy as well as preparing our POPI Act. We are expecting them to be published on our website, accessible to everyone by Monday the 5th of July 2021. Please go over them and make yourself familiar when they are published.

In the meantime, here is a brief overview of Hostify's data protection processes.

How Your Data Is Protected:

Data Center Level:

All physical hardware where data is stored on is protect with the highest of industry standards in Data Center Management and security, both physically and virtually. 24 hours physical security, limited, registered and secure access to premises, 24/7 monitoring of infrastructure and hardware.

Client User Information:

The information you provide to use that is required when you sign up to our services, such as your name, ID number, address, email etc, is kept in one location in our Jhb Data Center.

Access is limited internally, and no information is not sold, distributed, or used in any other way other than to manage your profile on our platforms.

Access to that information is recorded in an internal activity log for record and security purposes.

Web Hosting Clients:

Our shared hosting servers are protected with the most sophisticated server protection processes. This includes website files, applications and emails.

Regular Software and Hardware Maintenance
24/7 Monitoring of systems and threats
Regular Manual Virus Scans (across mail and website files)
Daily Virus Scans
Daily Backups
Security Firewalls
CMS Threat Protection (WordPress/Joomla Attacks)
Web Application Firewall (WAF)
Bruteforce Protection
IPDB Firewall (on a system-level we block many attacks before it reaches your website or mailbox)
Rootkit Protection

VPS Clients:

For our Virtual Private Servers, the responsibility largely relies on the user and should have their own policy in place, however, all of our servers are covered with the Data Centre Standards as mentioned above.

Hostify does offer management solutions for users who are unable to maintain, protect and manage their VPS servers. Please get in touch to find out more.

Data Backup Clients:

Login information to your backup accounts are protected in our Client User Information, with limited and restricted access.

Your data backups are not accessible to Hostify or any of their partners and required your email address associated to access them only.

Important steps for YOU to take:

As much as we protect from several thousands of attacks on our network per hour, the largest threat to any data is human error, this is why we encourage you to please take the following steps to protect your data with Hostify even more.

1. Review and Enable Extra Security on your Hostify Account - https://www.hostify.co.za/index.php?rp=/user/security

Enable two-factor authentication on your Hostify profile. This will add another layer of protection to your Hostify account by sending you a code via sms/app everytime you login.

You are also able to update your Secret Question in case your forget your logins.

2. Use a password Manager. You should stop using P@55W0rD and use a password generator that usually comes with a Password Manager like LastPass.

3. Don't store password and sensitive information on emails. If a mailbox gets compromised for an average user, the consequences could be dire. This is why at Hostify, we allow for single-sign-on, meaning you don't need to remember passwords to access your cPanel.

4. Check if your email address / data has been compromised in the past by using this tool - https://monitor.firefox.com/ - If it has, change all of your passwords immediately.
